Health and Safety Risk Assessments

United Kingdom health and safety regulations are stringent. Businesses and employers have to be on the ball when it comes to the safety of their staff and workers, and failure to do so can lead to possible prosecution and expense of large compensation pay outs. In order to comply with the strict regulations employers need to be aware of the risks in the workplace. So it is necessary for them to carry out risk assessments in all sectors of the business.

Since 1974 any employer in the UK with more than five staff must draw up a health and safety policy. And that policy cannot be drawn up without a number of risk assessments being undertaken. Although these procedures appear complicated the actual process can be boiled down to five basic steps.

Safety & Survival

  1. Any hazards have to be identified.
  2. Businesses must identify who might be harmed and how that is likely to happen.
  3. Any risks must be evaluated and a decision made on how they can be avoided.
  4. The findings must be recorded and then implemented.
  5. The assessment must be periodically reviewed and if necessary updated.

Of course, there are no common risks across the wide range of business and industry. Someone working in a supermarket will not face the same risk as someone working on the factory floor.

There are various agencies which help businesses carry out their health and safety risk assessments. Some have formulated software and online tool-kits to help businesses formulate their policies. They cover such instances as manual handling, where people have to lift and pull during their time at work. For those working on ladders or on scaffolding policies can be determined by using specialist working at height software or template statements. For those industries working with hazardous substances a COHSS risk assessment has to be carried out.

Health and safety risk requirements are not only a legal obligation, they also make sense. By ensuring the wellbeing of their staff, a business will have a more contented workforce and will avoid unnecessary disruption through injury at work.

Welding Safety Tips

Welding Safety: This is one of those things that many want to be welders, do not take serious. You can only get away with avoiding safety for so long before it bites you in the butt. I have seen many people welding without gloves and you can get away with this for a little while but what happens when a spark lands on your hand and sticks to the skin? You get a nasty burn! It will usually leave a scar for a while as a reminder to not be stupid next time. The one I have seen that really gets me is the person welding without a hood! It always makes me wonder where they were during the safety part of class. Or if they never took a welding course have they never talked to anyone that has done welding, about how to weld? This is one that I caught my son doing and he has been to class and I have warned him about it but he was in a hurry and didn't take time to grab a hood. I think after a couple times of welding without a hood and he had trouble seeing for several hours and the one time he actually burnt his eyes and they were swollen for a couple days, he learned to wear the hood!

The problem with this is, as he or anyone that chooses to weld without a helmet gets older, their eyes will get worse because of the abuse to them. Welding is very hard on the eyes, even when it is done safely and only makes things worse when you do not use the safety equipment. For me a problem I have encountered many times is getting to hot with a welding shirt so I would do small jobs in a t-shirt and it never fails a spark down the top of my shirt and a burn on my chest. It really does not matter what you choose when welding, if you do not use all the safety equipment you will get burnt. After all we are dealing with melted steel that is about 2400 degrees Fahrenheit, that's really hot.

Safety & Survival

When I was going thru welding school we had a few kids that used gel in their hair and that was one of the things the instructor warned us about, but there was one person that refused to quit using gel. We had started the hands on part of the course and I was talking to the instructor when we saw an unusual flash and then a scream. You guessed it; a spark went down the top of the hood and the flash we saw was his hair exploding. After his hair finally grew back he decided he would not wear gel in it when welding. Sometimes a person has to learn the hard way. If a person does not learn safety they have a good chance of having a bunch of scars and no hair.

When you decide to use a welder take a few minutes to put on the safety equipment, it will literally save you some skin. Welding can be a lot of fun as long as you show respect for it, if you don't respect it; you will get burned. Go out and have fun sticking metal together, but remember safety rules have a purpose! That is to keep you and everyone around you safe.

Fish Oil Supplement - The Truth About Fish Oil Safety

There is a concern lately that certain species of fish and fish oil supplements may contain harmful environmental contaminants. There is also the question of medical safety surrounding these Omega 3 supplements. So are you at risk taking this seemingly healthful essential fatty acid?

Safety

Safety & Survival

Fish oil supplements are considered safe for most people. But there are some who should not take fish oil. And consuming Omega3s in excessive amounts is not considered safe for anyone.

First, you should be aware that supplements are not regulated in most countries. In the United States for example, supplements are not strictly regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Therefore, you must assess safety and purity yourself.

Begin by reading product labels to determine ingredients and strength. If you are taking prescription or over the counter drugs, supplements, or herbs, be sure to check with your physician before you begin taking fish oil. The same advice holds if you have a medical condition - check with your doctor. And if you experience any side effects, contact your health care provider immediately.

Allergies?

If you are allergic or have a sensitivity to fish, you should avoid all supplements derived from fish.

Dosage

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration classifies intake of up to 3 grams per day of omega-3 fatty acids from fish as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe). Large doses may increase the risk of a hemorrhagic (bleeding) stroke. Any dose that exceeds the limit set by the FDA is excessive and not considered safe.

Talk to your health care provider to determine the optimum dosage of fish oil. Most people need less than the recommended upper limit. And never exceed the upper limit, unless otherwise directed by your physician.

Diabetics, people with high LDL (low-density lipoprotein), and those at risk for bleeding should exercise caution. If any of these conditions apply to you, this supplement may not be right for you. Definitely consult with your physician to be sure.

Pollutants

Some species of fish may have harmful levels of mercury, dioxins, or PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). However, because mercury is stored in the meat of the fish, rather than the oil, supplements are less likely to contain this toxic element.

Due to possible toxins such as these, it's essential to choose a respected brand that purifies and tests their supplements. High quality fish oil is purified to remove these potentially toxic contaminants. Molecular distillation and steam deodorization are the most effective means of removing pollutants. Pressure and high temperature are used to split, and eliminate, the toxins from the omega3 essential fatty acids.

Benefits

For many people, the answer is yes. According to the latest research, fish oil supplements appear beneficial to an array of ailments. While not a cure, this essential fatty acid may improve or relieve symptoms of conditions such as:

* Cholesterol
* Diabetes
* Heart disease
* Memory loss
* Depression
* Insulin resistance
* Rheumatoid arthritis.

Talk to your health care provider to see if fish oil supplements are right for you. And for optimum health and safety, never exceed the recommended dosage.

Fish Oil Supplement - The Truth About Fish Oil Safety

For high quality, purified fish oil click Nordic Naturals Fish Oil. Nordic Naturals exceeds the stringent International Standards set for dioxins, PCBs, and other toxins. Find more information on Omega3s and health at http://www.FishOilPillsOnline.com/.

Industrial Safety Supplies - The Important Role of Industrial Supplies in Your Business

Every business needs to keep industrial safety supplies within the facility. This is because messes happen and some of these messes cause accidents. In order to preserve your own safety, the safety of your employees, and the appearance of your business, industrial safety supplies are a necessity.

As for what should be part of your industrial safety supplies, they include absorbent and spill control products that allow you to tackle any spill quickly. However, in an industrial setting, most incidents are not as simple as spilled water or a soft drink in the floor, although these too can present a safety hazard, specifically a slip and fall hazard. Instead, you're likely to deal with oils, chemicals, and other harmful substances.

Safety & Survival

Here's a list of key industrial safety supplies

1) Absorbent pads
2) Absorbent mats
3) Absorbent socks
4) Booms
5) Spill kits
6) Spill containment berms and oil spill containment berms
7) Marine absorbents
8) Storm water products
9) Spill pallets, poly drums, safety cabinets, and much more

You can never be too safe within your business, so make sure that you have the industrial safety supplies that your business needs to operate safety. You can clean up spills, dispose of them properly, and be able to store hazardous items as safely as possible in order to avoid accidents.

Think of it this way: If you don't have industrial safety supplies handy, you run the risk of not being able to clean spills up quickly. If you can't clean them up quickly, someone could fall or inhale a harmful chemical. You also risk not being EPA compliant, which can result in fines. Finally, if the chemicals leak into the environment, the EPA can fine you as well. Any type of contamination that happens as a result of your business can become public knowledge and this can damage your reputation. A damaged reputation in turn can result in lost revenue.

And environmental contamination can also harm the ecosystem. If the EPA has to clean it up, they may charge your business with the cost, which can be substantial. A minimal investment in industrial safety supplies that are sturdy and effective can prevent this from happening to you. So when you're wondering what you can do to make your business safer, the answer is easy. A good assortment of industrial safety supplies will do that for you if you keep them handy and ready for use whenever needed.

The list above gives you a good idea of what you may need. And when you're shopping for supplies, make sure you are looking for quality and EPA and OSHA approval. Your new supplies should be durable, able to handle the challenge you bought them for, and resistant to the chemicals.

On Site PPE Safety

There are so many considerations to look at when committing to PPE safety. Obviously the safety of the workforce is your main concern, but how do you go about ensuring that universal safety? This article will cover the key points in PPE safety assessment. Firstly, what exactly is PPE?

PPE is defined as any kind of equipment (this includes clothing which protects against the weather) which is used, or intended to be used by a person at work to lessen risks to his or hers health and safety. One important aspect of PPE safety is that hearing protection and respiratory protective equipment may often not be covered in the same legislation, as they have different regulations covering them. Similarly, motorcycle helmets are not covered, as they are dealt with under road traffic regulations.

Safety & Survival

Both users and suppliers should make sure of the equipment's suitability for the job. This is one of the first stages of PPE safety. If you are not sure that the equipment will reduce the risk of injury, then it is required that you make sure. This can be done a number of ways. Preferably a suitable test should be made of the durability of gloves, or chemical testing. You will be ahead of the game if you have an understanding of PPE safety usability. In a vast majority of cases, your safety equipment supplier will have the appropriate legislation to hand at point of sale, so it's worth doing it then.

Storage and maintenance is a key aspect of this. It's easy for PPE to become useless if left in the wrong conditions for too long. The key point to raise here is that each individual product will have its manufacturer's storage instructions, and in many cases this will be pretty straightforward. Appropriate replacements should be kept on hand.

There are a number of questions you should ask when assessing PPE safety. Is the risk level appropriate for the piece of PPE? Is an obvious one. Does it increase the overall risk? This is a key point, because even if it satisfies all other criteria, a small blemish may increase the risk of an unassociated hazard or injury. Is it possible to adjust for weather conditions? We work in all conditions, and something that's appropriate for a light shower may not work properly in a hail storm. Is it compatible with other kinds of PPE? This is especially important when dealing with respirator and eyewear issues.

So you see there are many more issues than simply providing the right gear, and doing a little training. PPE safety is a serious aspect of any construction safety plan, and should be treated as such.

Guidelines For Safety While Welding

It is, of course, critical that you are safe when welding and that you don't take chances your own safety or that of other people. You must be aware of each of the guidelines below before starting to weld and remember them at all times to keep everyone safe. Over 1,000 injuries to the eyes occur daily in the United States as reported by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Quite a few of these accidents are suffered by both experienced and novice mechanics and you must make sure you always wear eye protection when welding and when performing other tasks around the workshop.

Safety Guidelines

Safety & Survival

1. Take care that you have sufficient grounding by using metal connections that are not covered with paint or other materials. Do not use wire ropes or chains or other inadequate grounding connections.

2. Make sure you place your welder on a flat surface far away from sources of combustible materials, gasoline, paper etc and never operate when conditions are wet as this will increase the risks of electric shock.

3. Gas cylinders need to be attached properly to supports or carts by metal chains and protective caps secured before you move them. Hoses should only be used that have been specially made for welding use.

4. All hoses should be inspected for leaks often by dripping on soapy water. Any leaks will show as bubbles form. Change any worn looking hoses before any leaking starts and never use duct tape to patch them! Also check out loose fittings and tighten them.

5. Make sure the area is clear of paper, tools etc. Store tools in containers and drawers. Don't let hoses and cables trail on the floor where they can be tripped over. Coil excess cables and hoses and place out of the way. This will also prevent damage from kinks and tangles.

6. Ensure you have the right tools for different tasks and always use them! Even when wearing welding gloves do not pick up hot metal but use pliers and always use the correct equipment for jobs like sanding, chipping etc.

7. You should always be wearing high impact glasses when you are grinding or cutting and wear them on entering the workshop. Wear them all the time you are in the workshop, be careful not to keep taking them off or one day you will forget to replace them and that's when an accident will happen!

8. You must have good ventilation in the workshop. In a sizeable workshop you will need a small fan in order to clear the fumes from welding however in a smaller workshop leaving open doors and windows will probably be sufficient.

9. Face and eye protection is vital. Radiation from the arc may cause lasting damage to both the eyes and the skin. Always wear safety glasses while in the workshop and beneath your helmet when you are welding. Take care that auto darkening helmets are up to the National Standards Institute guidelines. If you choose an auto darkening helmet you can easily change the position of work without flipping open your helmet.

10. Make certain that all safety clothing and equipment conforms to the guidelines of the OHSA and wear it all times. It cannot protect you if it's packed away in your locker! Skin should always be covered by flame retardant clothing to avoid spatter or spark injuries and you should always button down cuffs and pockets. You should always wear leather shoes to give adequate protection for your feet. Never wear trainers or tennis shoes or plastic shoes which can melt and stick to your skin. At all times wear specially designed welding gloves.

High Visibility Safety Vest Facts

For those that work in environments where your visibility is vital, I am sure you are aware of just how important a safety vest is. They are a vital clothing addition to many work fields and are important for many reasons. Here is a little about these vests and what they are made for.

I am sure we can all recall a cop guiding traffic that has the florescent vest on. While the color may be a bit obnoxious, there is a reason behind the design. A high visibility safety vest is designed to ensure ultimate visibility in all weather conditions. They are decked out with hi-viz reflective features like reflective tape to reflect things like oncoming cars.

Safety & Survival

A highly viz safety vest is more complex than the average person may think. They are sold in more than just makes and models for consumers and employers to choose from. These vests are actually classified into groups depending on the intensity of the situation they are being used for. For example, Class one would be the least "intense" vest. It may be designed in mess and have a Velcro closing. They are perfect to direct traffic light drama. They successfully grab attention and keep you visible. They are used by those who are giving their attention to traffic only, not for workers. A Class two vest is a step up in intensity and is for more drastic conditions. This class is going to have a more sturdy design and is ideal for road workers exposed to medium speed traffic. They will have more coverage and is the minimum requirement for those working on federal highways. The last numbered class is level three. This is for use with emergency workers and those working with high traffic and limited visibility. They will be worn by workers and vehicle operators and are vital aspects to their safety. They will have reflective surfaces on the arms even and will have a hook and loop closure.

There is a lot that goes into the making of a high visibility safety vest. While you now know the general idea of the classes and just what the vests are for, the classification goes as detailed as the number of square inches covered in background material. To be safe, it is best to not only know the law, but to get a high visibility safety vest that will successfully protect and fit your needs.

About Planet Bike
In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled 0,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

Trampoline Safety Implementation

Trampolines have always been synonymous to balance and body strength. Jumping on trampolines has always been a source of fun and fulfillment for adults and children alike. However, there also poses the threat of possible injury, especially to children. This is the reason for the implementation of trampoline safety whenever one uses the trampoline.

You must be wary of safety precautions if you wish to purchase a trampoline for your home. Statistics do not lie; according to the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission, trampolines have been a major cause for injury on a yearly basis. Around 83,000 (mostly children) are injured on trampolines. This should serve as the catalyst for better safety procedures. Since trampolines are widely known as a home recreational activity, the more families must look out for the safety of each member.

Safety & Survival

In Montreal, trampoline safety has been an alarming issue. The Montreal Children's Hospital emergency room treated 40 trampoline induced injuries. This prompted a warning from hospital officials to parents because of the increasing number of trampoline injuries. In 1997, a teenager succumbed to death due to head injuries sustained from trampoline use. The threat of this recreational activity has caused numerous risks, hence the need to take action.

Various health risks have sprung from the use of the trampoline. These vary from serious head injuries such as skull fractures, to sprained ankles and wrists. Broken bones are also quite common, with the back and neck bone topping the list.  This is why you should be careful whenever attempting tricks, or if sharing the trampoline, being pushed off by another person. It usually unwanted collision or landing which causes unwanted circumstances.

Safety precaution is applied from the start; buying a trampoline. It is important to buy safety pads to cover steel frame and springs which might be harmful later on. Further, installation of the trampoline is also essential to safe use. The trampoline must be places on soft ground to avoid bad injuries if ever someone falls off. There should not be hard surfaces such as walls or furniture which the child may hit in case of harsh play. Regulation is also vital - checking on the mat, frame, and springs of your trampoline is a must. Also, check that only one person is using the trampoline. Sharing is not advisable.

If ever injury does arise from trampoline use, make sure to seek first aid or call the hospital nearest you. Trampoline safety must be implemented at all times, for safety comes first before play.

Trampoline Safety Implementation

Trampoline safety is extremely important. For more tips and information on trampolines, please be sure to visit http://www.trampolinespot.com

Pedestrian and Public Safety at Construction Sites

Construction sites require a rigorous amount of care and vigilance from workers in terms of health and safety. Many accidents and even some fatalities happen to workers each year which could have been avoided through proper application and awareness of on-site safety procedures.

Pedestrian and public safety is just as vital. Many construction sites are within close proximity to areas where the public operate, requiring rules and safety procedures which are equally as vital as for the construction workers on site.

Safety & Survival

Some of the hazardous elements for pedestrians on construction sites are construction cranes carrying heavy loads, uneven surfaces, falling objects, collapses, heavy machinery and hazardous substances. Every piece of machinery and equipment used on a construction site has specific instructions regarding set up and maintenance, not only for the safety of the people working on the construction site but also the public. When equipment is used and maintained properly, workers and the public will benefit from greater safety.

Public awareness

Pedestrians should always exercise caution when in the vicinity of construction sites; however the first step towards construction safety of pedestrians should be making the public aware of danger.

All sites should display clear signs which are visible to pedestrians, indicating that construction is in progress along the perimeter of the site and at any entrance to the site. At entrances to sites, a sign should also be displayed indicating that the area after the entrance is a hard hat area, requiring the use of a safety construction hat at all times.

Common sense can save lives and if pedestrians are aware of danger, common sense will generally keep most of the public out of harms way.

Fencing off the perimeter

Fencing off a construction site is vital to public safety, and keeping all work inside the perimeter is equally as important.

If hazards are kept inside a fenced location, pedestrians should remain safe. When cranes are lifting heavy materials to deposit on the site, the cranes should not move the material over any space that is not cordoned off. If a crane needs to move a load out of the site regularly, the areas directly below where the crane will be moving its load should be blocked to the public in case anything falls from the crane.

Falling Objects

An object as small as a billiard ball can kill a person instantly when dropped from the immense height of a crane. The same applies for objects falling from the sides of buildings or any type of scaffolding. Whilst the public should be reasonably far from any high scaffolding and danger areas due to those areas being blocked off, construction workers are still required to keep tools on their belts and refrain from leaving any objects close to the edges of buildings or lying on scaffolding walkways.

Public convenience and safety

There are instances when carrying out construction work in very public areas cannot be avoided. Some areas cannot be cordoned off, such as freeways.

In such instances, it is usual practice for the construction company working on the site in question to contact the local council to organise a closure of the busy area at a time when the number of pedestrians and members of the public is less. For example, work carried out on closed train tracks and freeways during the night allows for heavy duty construction to take place without worry of hazard to the public and will not cause problems with traffic congestion and train schedules.

Uneven surfaces

Another element hazardous to members of the public from construction work is uneven and dangerous surfaces and terrain. When work is carried out on the ground, the safety of the public is threatened by the uneven and collapsible terrain. To avoid pedestrians being unable to access the areas needed and causing inconvenience, and to provide safe passage through the dangerous situations on the ground, scaffolding should be erected over the ground for the public to walk on.

Access scaffolding will allow the public to walk across areas which have very uneven surfaces and holes without the risk of injury or death through falling.

Construction safety is crucial in completing a successful project and should always take the safety of the public into account as much as the safety of construction workers by using strict rules and enforcing compliance from construction workers and the public, injuries and fatalities can be avoided to a great extent. Construction work is an incredibly important part of the evolution of the world and its infrastructure, yet is a very dangerous enterprise, making public and pedestrian safety in and around construction sites extremely important at all times.

Holiday Party Safety

We're just around the corner from the holidays, which means we're also getting pretty close to the office party season. Office parties can be a lot of fun, and they're the time when employers can say thanks to their employees who make their company possible. Since the winter quarter is often one of the most stressful to many businesses, it can also be a fun way to cut loose and have some fun with the people you work with, to let go of the stresses of the office and focus on having a good time.

All that being said, it's also a good way to shoot your career in the foot. If you've ever been to an office holiday party, you know that there's always at least one person who behaves inappropriately to the point where nobody at the office can take him or her seriously anymore. When you're the one getting drunk and hitting on less-than-responsive co-workers, it's hard for people to look at you the same way afterward. So the trick at an office party is to simultaneously enjoy yourself and still conduct yourself in a responsible, respectable way.

Safety & Survival

If you follow a few simple steps, you can retain your good name around the office:

  • Don't drink too much. This one's pretty obvious, but an open bar can be pretty tempting to a lot of people. One popular trick is to make every other drink a glass of water. This way, you'll keep hydrated, drink less, and be better able to ascertain just how intoxicated you are. An upside is that you'll be more likely to avoid a nasty hangover in the morning.
  • As tempting as it may be, don't make advances on your co-workers if it's not reciprocal. Most companies will allow employees to date, but there are also sexual harassment laws and policies to think about. It's better to err on the side of caution.
  • It can be a good idea to share cabs rather than drive. Even if you go into the party expecting not to do much drinking, it's safest to let somebody else do the driving. Even if you're concerned about how pricey a cab ride might be, it's still a whole lot cheaper than a DUI conviction.

Safety in the Warehouse

Working in a warehouse can be dangerous but it does not have to be. Many of the most experienced workers in the warehouse are often accustomed to seeing the dangers of the workplace, putting inexperienced workers at risk. Of these two cases, neither one should be at risk, because everyone deserves the right to work in a safe environment. If anything is out of place then workers should notify their supervisors. Besides workplace hazards, many safety injuries come from worker safety issues like manual handling injuries.

Employee Training

Safety & Survival

Manual handling injuries are fairly common especially among novice warehouse workers. These injuries can be caused by lifting heavy objects, long hours of carrying heavy loads, pulling items, pushing cargo items, and even holding or restraining such items. Sometimes a bad movement or just long hours can contribute greatly to these injuries. Before hiring employees, a training should be given to new employees on lifting techniques, stretches and good posture. These trainings should be repeated every few months for all employees.

Avoiding Warehouse Hazards and Injuries

Other risks may come from hazards in the warehouse. These hazards include items laying around the platforms and workspace, not paying attention, lack of communication between employees and anything that seems out of place. There are ways to avoid such hazards. Some of these safety regulations may include daily walk throughs of the warehouse for possible hazards, speaking with the workers about potential safety hazards, come up with a team of employees to go over past cases of worker injuries and warehouse hazards in order to pinpoint which hazards and injuries are most common in your warehouse to work on solutions and monitor the injuries that are occurring in the work place.

Avoid Manual Handling Injuries

Sometimes there are numerous accidents in the workplace because of the layout design of the warehouse. Warehouses should have ample space to move about in. Since workers are carrying heavy loads, the space should be open to avoid anyone bumping into anything. Also all spills should immediately be cleaned up to avoid the risk of falling. To decrease manual handling injuries the weight of objects carried should not exceed the weight that one can carry, push, pull, etc. Items should also be easy to carry. If items are hard to hold onto, oddly shaped or are easily droppable then there should be other options to carry these items in order to avoid injury.

In order to eliminate the hazards in a warehouse and to increase warehouse safety, the entire staff needs to work as a team. If there are items lying around, spills, broken glass, wires or cables lying around, these hazards should be reported to supervisors. If these things go unseen or unspoken of, then there is a very good chance that someone will become injured. Safety should always be every company's number one occupation. If the workers are injured, no business will take place. When the workers stay safe and abide worker's safety in warehouses then the company can make a profit.

The Keys to Home Safety

Is your home equipped to protect you and your family against intruders? Crime studies have shown that homes with crime deterrents, such as home security systems or window and door alarms, provide the type of home safety that deters criminals.

Your house is the one place where you expect to be safe from crime. But without security measures, safety is not a guarantee. FBI statistics show that a house, condominium, or apartment is burglarized once every 15 seconds. But it's a crime that is preventable.

Safety & Survival

Home safety measures fall into two categories: crime deterrents and security precautions. Among crime deterrents are door braces, which stop a door from being opened, a flashing safety light and a fake TV, which gives the appearance that a home is occupied. All of these measures discourage criminals from entering your place of residence when you're not there or are asleep. Even if you are home, these crime deterrents are your eyes and ears to what's going on outside. They will make you aware of impending danger and give you time to call police or get out of the house.

Other precautions are home security systems that are connected to a police station or security agency, motion detector alarms, door and window alarms, an electronic watch dog and a driveway alert alarm. These types of alarms monitor the perimeter of your home and set off a signal when someone is trying to break in. Unlike crime deterrents, these safety devices are audible and generally scare a criminal away.

Home safety measures are a wise investment, considering the high number of thefts that occur each year. But how do you decide which safety device is right for you? Your lifestyle, the contents you have and the type of neighborhood in which you live all factor into the decision. If the home is unoccupied for most of the day, then it's best to get an alarm system that reports to a police station or security agency. It doesn't take long for a robber to figure out your daily routine. A comprehensive security system is also best if you have expensive items in your house or live in an affluent area.

There are home safety devices to meet anyone's budget. So if you're unable to afford a complete system, it's best to invest in cost-effective crime deterrents or other alarms that meet your price range. It's a fact that some type of deterrent is better than nothing at all. When adding a security device to your home, be sure to contact your insurance company because most offer discounts off your policy premium.

The Keys to Home Safety

When it comes to protecting you and your family at home, it pays to be proactive and invest in home safety measures that will secure your home from intruders. After all, you deserve to have peace of mind while at home, and that's what home safety devices can provide.
